Resellers Beware!
Centrex has always been a key offering from Service Providers. I’ve sold loads including the very first implementation for BT to McDonalds in North London. There service, called Featurenet 5000, was based on the DMS platform from Nortel. Today they offer a Hosted UC service on both the CS2K platform from Nortel and the HUCS offering from Cisco.
Now I see more and more Service providers not only offering, but actively pushing Hosted IP Voice/Hosted Unified Communications services. Today I read an article about Verizon and their Cisco based service.
In this current economic climate, an “OPEX” solution is a very powerful proposition. Being able to enable the customer to keep cash in the bank and still take advantage of the benefits a Unified Communications solution is very compelling.
This creates a very big challenge for anybody selling a hardware, or what is often called a “DIY” solution. The “Hosted” trend is gaining momentum, so to stay competitive, resellers must be able to identify the measurable value AND the measurable risk that could come from putting all your eggs in the Basket of a Service Provider.
